The skinny jean for some men, are deemed as a style obstacle, which for some means taking time to access whether they are bold enough to wear the slender fit, though for others it is just a no-go zone. There is of course a fine line between what is acceptable and what is not regardless of how much confidence you may have when it comes to your own style. I think in general, gentlemen are coming round to the flattering elements of the ‘skinny’ jean which with the right cut can flatter and work with most body shapes. The skinny fit has been highly glamourised over the past decade, so much so that for the teens to early thirties, its practically become a staple essential.

Topman have been and still continue to champion the cause for denim jeans on the high street. With the perfect mix of having a variety of styles and cuts with an un-matchable price point for the standard of product, Topman is simply unrivalled for what they deliver; Really, really good denim.

I was invited down to the swish Men’s Personal Shopping Lounge at Topman Oxford Circus, London to run my eye through the latest denim offering for this season and to style a few outfits around a pair of jeans chosen by myself. I have also selected some key items from the denim range that you should seriously consider having in your wardrobe this Autumn.

So for my Topman outfit based around a pair of denim jeans, I chose a slightly left-field cut in the form of a cropped, wide leg jeans in black. Now if you’ve been paying attention to the catwalks the past few seasons’s, you would have noticed the fashion elite trying to edge us to a more, fuller legged trouser or jean, with some designers pushing hard for the return of the flare. Topman Design – the premium line from Topman which showcases at LCM every season has pushed the bar more than most for the return of the flare, where in the last two collections, the seventies inspired shape has featured prominently.

The Outfit

fashion 1

My outfit idea is born from a looser, cropped trouser that I am really into for this season. The other reasoning behind choosing the cropped, wide leg jeans is based around my admiration for the biker look with references going back to the sub-cultures of the sixties but also for the modern L.A. biker movement. The L.A. biker look isn’t so dominated by uniformed colour, like the traditional biker code of dress being strictly built around black leather and blue denim. My outfit components to go with the jeans are the faded check shirt (£32) with sleeveless denim gilet (£40) and the iconic Redwing boots (£229).

Here is one of my favourite pieces from Topman’s denim range; The Topman LTD japanese selvedge denim jacket (£85) which is brilliant piece from the collaboration with the renowned Kurabo denim mill in Japan. The LTD range also has a matching pair of jeans (£75) with a softer selvedge denim alternative at the same price.
