Well, it’s finally happening – some sense of normalcy to our day to days. The return of pre-pandemic life is rolling out slowly but surely, and as we feel more comfortable allowing friends and family and bumble matches back into our homes, we want to make sure your space is as inviting and fun as possible. We’ve spent the last year in lockdown staring at the same walls and rooms over and over, and if you’re like a lot of people, you’ve done some redecorating or remodeling already. Here’s a quick list of updates for your space to take it to the next level.

Be a Plant Guy

We’ve all seen the memes, t-shirts, and coffee mugs boasting about being a proud “Plant Mom” or “Plant Lady.” It would help if you were a Plant Guy, too. Adding plants to your living space not only boosts the quality of the air you’re breathing in all day and night, literally bringing a breath of fresh air; It also adds a bright touch of life to any room. Did you know that certain plants even come in and out of fashion? These days, you’re going to want to get your hands on a Monstera, a Fiddle Leaf Fig, and a Snake Plant (also known as Mother In Laws Tongue). These plants are definitely in vogue right now and make a great conversation starter if it’s someone’s first time in your home.

Vintage Tones

It’s not news that having specific touches of vintage in a home is always in style. Whether your entire space is Mid Century Modern or not, it shows you appreciate the timelessness of things. You’ve got taste, and you don’t just surround yourself with whatever is “cool” at the moment. Search online for a chic MCM coffee table, an Eames (or Eames style) chair; Or you can never go wrong with a turntable. Record players produce a sound that nothing else can touch, no matter how high-end your audio setup is. There’s something so effortlessly cool about the sound of a record playing. Plus, we’ve all exhausted our hobby lists over the last year, so why not pick up a new one of collecting vinyl?

Books, Baby

What’s that line about never sleeping with someone if you get to their place and they don’t own any books? Or when everyone was Marie Kondo’ing their homes, what was the hardest thing to part with? It was books; it’s always books. Hopefully, you’ve already got a decent collection on one of your shelves; if you’ve got a full shelf, even better. But, if you don’t, please head to your local bookstore and stock up. You obviously want books you’re actually going to read, and if you’re not someone that reads books, well, that’s another post altogether. Books are the ultimate conversation starter, and a shared love of a specific book or genre can be the gateway to new relationships. Books don’t have to break the bank either; if heading to Barnes and Noble and dropping three hundred dollars isn’t in your budget, your local thrift store is a great place to find used books – and there are hidden gems there for the rest of your home, all the time.

Scent Sense

It makes sense, right? Seriously, you have got to be aware of how your surroundings smell, and this is one of the easiest ways to put someone off when they come into your space. Luckily, it’s easier than ever to make your space smell inviting and even easier to customize it to your test. You can go the candle route, the reed diffuser, or with incense. Just please, don’t go the plug-in way. We’re all adults here, and the path of the wall plug-in is not it. Of course, a combination of several options is going to yield the best results, and nothing sets a mood much better than a candle either. If you’re sensitive to chemicals or just want to anticipate others being so, you’re better off going with a soy candle that’s scented with natural oils.

So, there you have it. It’s a quick little list, but it will make a world of difference to that first impression of someone back in your home. Now, get out there and reconnect safely.
