If you’re getting a hair transplant in Turkey for the first time, naturally, you’ll have some questions. You might be a bit nervous because of all the unknowns, but that’s just the way things are whenever you’re trying anything new and, in this case, life-changing.
However, to calm your nerves a little, there’s something that you can do: jot down all the questions that you want to ask your surgeon. During your consultation session, it’s better if you have a list ready of all the things that you want to ask about the surgery itself and the important steps in it.
To make things easier for you, we have compiled a list of the most important that you shouldn’t forget to ask your surgeon during consultation. Let’s get into it.
What’s the Health of My Donor Area?
The health of your donor area will significantly determine the overall outcome of your surgery. If you have a thick donor area, you will be able to achieve good hair density. However, if the donor area itself has sparse hair,it might be hard to cover all the bald areas.
In some of these cases, you’re ruled out as an unsuitable candidate for the surgery. It’s important to be clear about this so that you don’t develop wildly unrealistic expectations.
How Experienced Is My Surgeon?
You need to know how experienced your surgeon is, and “experienced” here means that you should ask your surgeon about the number of years for which they have been performing hair transplants.
You should also make sure if they have a diverse patient portfolio. Different hair types need different surgical techniques. Other than that, ask your surgeon if they have General Medical Council (GMC) or other relevant registrations.
How Many Sessions Will I Need?
Your surgeon needs to inform you about this before the surgery takes place. The number of sessions you need depends on the area of baldness. You may end up needing 2 or 3 sessions depending on your baldness.
Also, ask the surgeon if you need other treatments; some surgeons recommend PRP injections after transplant to improve the results of the surgery.
Will I Lose My Hair After Hair Transplant?
That depends on the age at which you’ve gotten a hair transplant. If you have male pattern baldness, it will take some for the scalp to show the definite pattern of balding. They are usually recommended to wait till the age of 25.
Depending on your genetics, your hair loss can continue after the hair transplant as well. In this case, you’ll need another procedure in a couple of years.
Will I Get Any Medications from the Clinic?
Usually, the clinic provides patients with prescription painkillers and antibiotics. They will also give you a medicated shampoo and lotion with which you’ll be washing your hair for some time.
Will I Have a Check-Up Appointment?
Ask about this beforehand. Your surgeon needs to examine your scalp after the surgery to make sure that you’re recovering normally. They’ll also change the dressing and wash your scalp for the first time in this appointment. So, make sure you get one.
Which Hair Transplant Procedure Will I Be Getting?
Mainly, there’s FUT and FUE hair transplants. The latter is much more common these days because it ensures better results with minimal scarring. Still, if the hair density is low in the donor area, your surgeon might recommend FUT for better results. In any case, ask this question from your surgeon.
