We here at High Def Male are firm believers that shoes maketh the man so carrying on from our boat shoe article last week we thought we’d continue with our footwear obsession by eulogising over another fine piece of footwear… the chukka boot.
The boot per-se is not often associated with the summer months but if one boot fits the mould it is the Chukka; the traditional soft suede, colours which embrace the summer months and lightweight fabric ensure you can wear this boot with shorts, jeans or chinos making it ideal from noon until midnight.
Here are five of our favourites and the clothes you should be wearing them with.
Morgan Suede Chukka
Paul Smith is the doyen of smart / casual and nothing quite ticks the boxes as much as these beautiful burgundy chukkas. Perfect for the summer months, this is a great boot to be worn with tailored shorts and a casual sweater for the garden party with the in-laws.
Black Brogue Chukka
Modern fashion isn’t afraid to break from the norm and while trends may come and go, these chukka-meets-brogue hybrid from River Island are certainly something worth writing about. Be it the rock ‘n’ roll look or worn with a suit at a wedding, this boot really does have every occasion covered.
Penguin Legal Chukka
Nothing quite says summer than the soft, taupe suede colourway of the chukka boot; there is something so quintessential about this look and the colour makes it instantly recognisable as the classic chukka boot. Paired with a lightweight evening jacket, some navy jeans and a polo shirt, you could me off out for a meal with the family or out on the town with your mates. Or possible both.
Cookie Boot
The summer is all about expressing yourself through colour and nowhere should this be more so than when you are on your holiday. The name of these boots might not do them justice but the colour certainly does. These boots are perfect for summer evenings basking under the glow of the summer sun and will look great for that pared back, relaxed feel.
Brown Leather
You know how it is, you’ve been invited to the evening do of some old friends wedding and you don’t want to be suited and booted but at the same time you want to make some effort, that’s where the classic brown leather boot comes to the fore. Add some chinos and a short sleeve shirt and you’ll be on the dance floor and gleaning the last of the free bar before you know it.
The summer holidays are coming to a close and thoughts may well be turning towards more autumn, but there is still time to make the most of the brilliant chukka boot. Plus, even if the summer season is nearing it’s zenith, this being the most classic of boots ensure you’ll be able to pop it in the back of your wardrobe and take it out again next summer.
