When it comes to putting a new outfit together, its easy to go to the shops and buy 2 or 3 individual pieces and throw them together, but what I prefer to do is invest in pieces that I know will fit seamlessly into my wardrobe and work with pieces that I already have.

This summer I have set myself a little task, to buy just two pieces that I know will work with other pieces I have already have, in turn creating numerous new outfits without over spending, let’s see how I get on.

Fine Knit Resort Shirt – £29.74

Not your average black shirt. The resort collar gives it immediate summer vibes whilst also cut to a slightly boxy fit gives it a modern feel. What I enjoyed most about this is its ability to be worn alone or layered over a white t shirt and left unbuttoned. I know this will work well when paired with either black jeans or chinos for a clash of texture and also with the white trousers I’m going to speak about next.

Slim Fit Linen Trousers – £21.24

Nothing screams summer like a pair of white linen trousers, and this pair tick every box for me. Slim fit, pleated, tapered towards the ankles, they have it all. Not only will they pair beautifully with the black shirt, but with them being beige, they will look great with a white French tucked t shirt and a pair of trainers. Failing that, keep the black shirt and replace the trainers with a pair of sandals or smart shoes and create a whole new outfit.

By simply purchasing 2 new, versatile pieces, I reckon I can create at least 10 other solid outfits by utilising items I already own. It just goes to show that you don’t have to buy lots or spend too much to breath new life into your wardrobe.
