It seems like this collaboration was announced just yesterday. With June here and summer well on its way, the much anticipated collaboration has now hit selected stores.
This collaboration between Topman and the Danish born designer, seems like it couldn’t come at a better time. With streetwear and urban styles being at its peak in fashion, the demand from fashion retailers is huge, and Andersen can deliver.
Drawing much inspiration from basketball, Andersen has even adopted a basketball and chain to represent her brand as the logo. Her interest in basketball is also reflected through her collections, which usually consist of loose and oversized clothing. The brand has been described as luxurious street style, that explores a hip-hop wardrobe infused with fabrics and textiles that wouldn’t necessarily be put together.
Recognized for pushing the boundaries on menswear, Andersen likes to mix it up quite a bit. She has appropriated trends and styles usually associated with women, and applied those fabrics, colours, and silhouettes to men’s fashion. Lace, mesh, cropped tops, are all prevalent in her collections. Even on the runway, her models wear make-up and lipstick for great effect, setting her apart from a lot of her peers, and also allowing her brand to be recognized.
Andersen, a self proclaimed fan of A$AP Rocky and the rest of the A$AP Mob, who has had much influence to urban fashion in the past year and a half; has always been supported by the group. Andersen has even made custom pieces for A$AP Rocky previously that has had much attention.
There where no surprises when official pictures where released, and A$AP Ferg was the face of the new collection. Up until now the collaboration had been very hush-hush; and the seventeen-piece strong collection is just as we expected. Amazing!
In true form, Andersen plays with fabrics such as lace and crushed velvet. The colour palette only includes black, white and a hot pink, bronze metallic strips and plenty capital A’s that decorate each piece. Shorts, jerseys, sweaters, t-shirts, sweat suits and even a backpack accented with copper zippers. The collection may be small but certainly packs a punch. The collection is priced anywhere between £45 and 170, and is now available online and in selected stores.
This is definitely a meeting of two great minds. The Arcadia group is well known around the country, and the Topman brand has had much international success, and it seems as though timing is perfect for Andersen. She held her first independent show in 2011, gaining much popularity amongst the industry. Three years on and she has teamed up with one of the most favorable high street name for men’s streetwear. The collaboration could bring her to new heights in a short time span.
With LC:M starting been and gone, Andersen will showcased her SS15 collection, and again it was a faultless collection. Her vision is certainly one to watch, and could potentially give insight to where casual menswear will be heading very soon.
