We may still be deep in the midst of what feels like another endless winter but having survived the horror of January, now is the time to start thinking about what we are going to wear once Spring begins to appear upon the horizon.
Dressing for Spring can be tricky as the climate is likely to leap from gorgeous sunshine to howling wind and rain in the space of half an hour. The key to this is layering your outfits so you can either wrap up or strip off depending on what elements happen to be rolling around the stratosphere.
Here’s five pieces that will make your Spring wardrobe easier to navigate…
The Denim Jacket
Biker and bomber jackets may be all the rage at present but the denim jacket is ideal for Spring; lighter than a biker jacket but far sturdier than a bomber the denim jacket is a timeless classic making it perfect for the Spring. Double denim is not always easy to pull off so may we at High Def Male suggest a good pair of navy or sand coloured chinos instead.
Straight Leg Jeans
Straight leg trousers seems to be one of those trends that never quite takes off – I even wrote about them last season – but while the high street brands seem to stock nothing but skinny fit jeans, there is a growing audience of men who are wearing looser fitting, straight leg jean. Perfect with hi-top Converse and a casual sweater, get yourself a pair before everyone jumps on the bandwagon. May we suggest rolling them up a few inches too.
The Grey Sweater
From Ivy League college kids to John Travolta in Grease, nothing quite crosses the sport / casual divided like the marl grey sweater. With a good pair of navy jeans and a shearling jacket over the top, this is possibly one of the best items of clothing you could have in your wardrobe.
The Roll Neck
It’s been around for a couple of years now but the fine roll-neck sweater is perfect for the transition of seasons. Worn under a shirt or sweater or simply on it’s own with a trench coat, not only will you look smart, you’ll also be able to keep the elements at bay. Colour is also essential for your new roll neck this season so why not go for burgundy or classic white.
Brogues
It’s time to stop thinking about pulling on a pair of boots every day and time to start looking at a good pair of rubber soled brogues. Perfect with jeans or your work suit the key here is the rubber sole. Although the classic leather sole is a must for any mans wardrobe it’s not always ideal for the Spring season. Be it brown or black, the brogue makes every good outfit look great.
Winter may still be with us but take a look at any online store or glance in any highstreet window and you’ll soon realise that in the world of fashion the early days of Spring are very much in the air. It’s time to start planning what layers you need as the season progresses and we hope this gives you just a little taster of some of the key looks for the new season. Happy shopping.
